U.S. Unexpectedly Sheds 23,000 Jobs in July

The U.S. labor market in July proved stunningly weaker than economists’ expectations, with employers shedding jobs over the month. The U.S. lost 23,000 nonfarm jobs last month, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics released Friday. The consensus forecast among economists surveyed by FactSet had called for a gain of 95,000 jobs last month, after the labor market added a revised 20,000 jobs in June.
