The Federal Reserve raised interest rates for the first time in three years on Wednesday. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 1.2%, the S&P 500 fell 0.5% and the Nasdaq Composite edged 0.01 lower%. “Today’s rate increase was an easy decision for the Fed, with U.S. inflation above the 2% target for over five years…but with ongoing geopolitical and energy price uncertainty emanating from the Persian Gulf, the 2027 policy outlook is murkier,” notes Ronald Temple, chief market strategist of Lazard Asset Management.
